Maximize number of usable lines in ISPF EDIT/VIEW and SDSF
As a z/OS systems programmer I spend a lot of my time in ISPF EDIT/VIEW and SDSF. I prefer to have as much usable lines as possible.

1. EDIT/VIEW

In EDIT/ VIEW let us start with a worst case scenario:

PFSHOW ON
MENUBAR ON
Action bars visible
Split line visible
Screen splitted on the command line of the main ISPF screen

This leaves 14 usable lines to edit

Most of us do not need the values of the PKKeys shown on the screen

After

PFSHOW OFF

we win 2 lines: 16 lines usable in edit

Some of you may like SWAPBAR I prefer to set:

PF2 SPLIT NEW
PF9 SWAP LIST

PF9 now gives us a nice screen with all ISPF sessions

Further I disable keylists in edit

So after

SWAPBAR OFF

We win another line and now have 17 lines in EDIT

Make sure that you turn off the SPLIT line visibility:

SETTINGS

'Always show split line' in SETTINGS

Do not split the screen on the command line but on the action bar line

We now have 19 lines to use in EDIT/VIEW

After 25 years I know the ISPF menu so I dont have a need for the actionbars

From within EDIT:

After EDITSET and selecting:

'Remove action bars in ISPF edit and view panels'

We now have 21 lines usable to edit a file.

2. SDSF

You win 2 lines if you do not need the Action bar:

After:

SET SCREEN

You have the choice:

Display the action bar 1. Yes
2. No
