No-Cost Educator Conference

The IBM z Systems Academic Initiative is hosting a no-cost conference for high school and college educators who are interested in integrating enterprise systems into their curriculum. Those already teaching enterprising computing who would like to learn more and instructors who would like to get started teaching are welcome.

The 2015 IBM Enterprise Systems Educators Conference will be held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville from June 1 to 3. The event includes presentations, lab exercises and guest speakers on a variety of topics. Educators can stay for as much or as little of the conference as they would like. While the conference and meals are complimentary, travel and lodging is up to the attendee, with resources for travel and lodging available.

Topics to be discussed include strategies for implementing z Systems education into a curriculum, hands-on skills for educators, an employer panel discussing expectations for young professionals, IBM Master the Mainframe contest overview and information on various IBM products and solutions.

“This conference is an amazing way for new and existing professors z Systems to learn more about enterprise systems technologies from those professors that have extensive courses at their universities,” says Troy D Crutcher, IBM Academic Initiative, z Systems. “This year we are focusing on big data and analytics, however, there are several beginner topics for our professors that will help them to hit the ground running once they return.

Beyond the educational and informational aspect, attendees will be able to network with professionals and educators.

“The networking aspect of this conference is the biggest hit,” Crutcher notes. “Beginner professors will make lifelong connections with these other professors, so they will never feel alone when it comes to creating or revamping their enterprise systems content.”

Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enrollment is open through May 22. Find out more about the conference and register.
