Smarter Computing Shares 13 Things to Know About the IBM z13

On Jan. 14, IBM launched its newest mainframe, the IBM z13, designed from the ground up to address the growing needs of mobile, big data, analytics and cloud. The z13 features up to 141 of the industry’s fastest commercial microprocessors built on 22-nanometer technology, 40 percent total capacity improvement over zEC12 and up to 10 TB available memory. Watch the replay of the launch event.

IBM’s Smarter Computing blog has a post by Ross Mauri, general manager, IBM z Systems, about 13 things to know about the z13. The list includes:

  1. How many transactions mobile drives and how that number is expected to grow
  2. That the new mainframe is able to process transactions equivalent of 100 Cyber Mondays every day
  3. Advances in analytics and transactional scoring all on the platform
  4. Why the z13 is ideal for a cloud environment and how it provides a cost-effective cloud solution

What do you think from this list is most important? What else would you add to the list? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Read more about what Mauri has to say about the z13 in his interview with IBM Systems Magazine in the January/February issue.
